Tough Day in the Market

We started off the week with 20 teachers have portfolios over $100,000. Today we are down to just 14 teachers who can claim that position in the market. Even Lance’s portfolio lost a good bit of money in yesterday’s market. Today is the final day for transactions. Saturday morning will show the final tally with prizes distributed to the winners during Wednesday’s faculty meeting.

Howard Owes Me $10,000

Check out the latest standing at www.stockmarketgame.org. Thomas and Marks continue to battle for the number 1 spot. Helena R. makes the top twenty. Retirement dreams are delayed for Howard.

Lance Tops $109,000 Plus in Two Weeks

Lance T. continues to amass an account that has exceeded $109,000 in just two weeks of trading with one more week of trading to go. Remember that the winner is the one with the most valuable account. Selling now means paying commission, so my advice is not to sell as we approach our final week.

Could Lance Quit His Day Job?

Goodness. A portfolio of over $108,000 in just two weeks of trading! GO Lance T. It is good to see Gena M. and Helena R. trading. One more week to go my friends.

HUGE Gains by the Faculty Today

Lance T. at over $106,000, Craig T. and Suzanne C. at over $105,000, Cheryl H. and Brenda H. at over $104,000. The biggest news is that 39 teachers are now trading. Way to go!

Online Tutorial

First, you will need to register.

1. Go to www.stockmarketgame.org
2. Click registration link on the top right
3. Complete the form as instructed. You will be registering as a single teacher not a classroom of students. Register for the teacher promo game that began 9-8-09. Under payment, choose “other.” There is no cost
4. In less than 24 hours, you will be sent a user name and password from Wanda McAbee, coordinator.

Next, you will make a trade:

1. After you receive the user name and password go to the website. Enter the codes.
2. Go to the upper left of your screen in the blue area and select Make A Trade.
3. Select either Stock Trade or Mutual Fund Trade
4. Place a ticker symbol in the box. Say WMT for WalMart. Buy a minimum 100 shares. Select Market Order. Click Confirm Trade.
5. Your purchase will show up in Pending Transactions after a few minutes showing your trade has been “executed.” The official tally will appear tomorrow. Go to the website again. Enter your codes. Select Rankings in the bottom left of your screen. Select the ranking link again. To analyze your account, go to account holdings in the blue bar at the home page.

What to buy?

1. Enter the game. Go to Investor Research in the blue top link area. Select a ticker. Selector StreetWiseTips. You can also research at FoxNews, CNN, and Yahoofinance.org (my favorite).

Good Luck!

$164 Separates First and Second Place

Remember it is not too late to join in on this fun, educational experience. The game is very close with only $164 separating first and second place. Check it out at www.stockmarketgame.org. You can still register but must make three trades by this Friday September 17 to be eligible for prizes.

How 'Bout Those Social Studies Teachers?

No less than 7 social studies teachers in the top 10. C'mon Furnas. Where are you Tilton? Okay so our friend Libby is in the tank. (That will probably be me tomorrow!)

From the Tank to the Top

Guess who is number one after day 3 of trading...Hint: It is the same teacher who was dead last after day two of training: Stephanie Millard! You go girl!

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Day Two Ends With Psychology Teacher #1

Check out the rankings for the game by logging into your account at www.stockmarketgame.org
You can access the ranking by selecting the link on the bottom left hand corner of your home page. At the end of day two training, psychology teacher Michelle B. from social studies is ranked number one with Shakespeare expert Jill S. from English close behind in the second spot. I guess they must understand the soul of investments more than the rest of us.

Happy Trading!

Day One Ends

Brenda H., Jill W., Howard F., and Jesse T. are the tops for the school after day one of the three-week stock market game. Yes, Morrow is in the tank. You know what they say, those who can't (become investment gurus) teach.

Great prizes including SPHS clothing provided by the coaches, gift bags from the PTA, and a $25.00 gift card to Home Depot from the PTA are all up for grabs. You must make three transactions to be eligible for prizes.

Happy Trading!

Cheryl
